These Terms & Conditions apply to technology support and related services provided by Your Tech Neighbour to individual customers and households.
By requesting, accepting, or receiving services from Your Tech Neighbour, you agree to these Terms and any other agreement that applies to the service you have requested.
1. Our Services
Your Tech Neighbour provides technology support for personal and household technology needs, including computer, internet, Wi-Fi, printer, device, and related technology assistance.
We will make reasonable efforts to understand and address the problem you have asked us to help with. Technology problems can have multiple causes, and we cannot guarantee that every problem can be identified, fixed, or permanently prevented from returning.
If we determine that further work is unlikely to be productive, that the problem is outside our reasonable capabilities, or that another specialist or solution would be more appropriate, we will explain this to you.
We will not continue performing unnecessary work simply to increase the bill.
2. Customer Responsibilities
You are responsible for providing reasonable access, information, authorization, and cooperation needed to perform the requested service.
You must have authority to request work on the equipment, accounts, networks, or other property involved.
You are also responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of important files and data. We may recommend or assist with backups where appropriate, but we cannot guarantee that an existing backup is complete, current, or usable.
You remain responsible for your equipment and its condition. We will take reasonable care when handling your equipment, but technology that is damaged, defective, outdated, or already failing may fail further during troubleshooting or repair.
If we identify a significant risk before proceeding, we may recommend that the risk be addressed or that important data be backed up first.
3. In-Home and Remote Support
For in-home services, you or another authorized person must remain present for the duration of the appointment.
We may pause or end an appointment if the required person is not present.
We also require a safe and respectful working environment. Threatening, abusive, harassing, discriminatory, sexually inappropriate, or otherwise unsafe conduct is not acceptable. We may leave or discontinue a service if we reasonably believe that continuing would be unsafe or inappropriate.
Remote support may use third-party remote-access software. Remote access will only be used with your knowledge and authorization. You remain in control of your device and may end a remote-support session.
If you no longer want remote-access software installed, we will assist with disabling or removing it where reasonably possible at no charge.
4. Personal Information, Passwords and Customer Files
Our Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and retain personal information.
When providing technology support, we may see personal information stored on your devices. We only access information reasonably necessary to perform the authorized service and do not intentionally browse unrelated personal information.
Where practical, we ask you to enter passwords yourself. If you provide a password or other credential to us, we use it only as necessary to provide the authorized service and do not intentionally retain it afterward.
If customer files must temporarily be copied to another device or storage medium to complete a service, they will be used only for that service and removed when no longer reasonably required.
5. Pricing, Payment and Additional Work
You are responsible for payment for services actually performed. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due when the service is completed. Accepted payment methods may include debit or credit card, cash, cheque, electronic funds transfer, or other methods made available by Your Tech Neighbour. Applicable taxes are additional where required.
Our current rates and pricing are communicated as part of the service arrangement and may change from time to time.
A service may reveal additional work that was not apparent when the appointment was arranged. Where additional work is required or recommended, we will explain the situation and, where authorization is required, obtain your approval before proceeding. If you ask us to stop work, you remain responsible for work already performed.
You are never required to purchase a product, software, subscription, or other service simply because we recommend it. Recommendations are provided to help you make an informed decision. Products and services supplied by another company are the responsibility of that provider and are subject to its own terms and policies.
Third-party services we use to provide our services, such as payment or remote-support services, are subject to the applicable provider’s terms and privacy practices.
6. Cancellation, Rescheduling and No-Shows
There is no cancellation fee.
We ask for at least 24 hours’ notice when you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
A $30 no-show fee may apply if you are unavailable for a scheduled appointment without cancelling or rescheduling.
We may waive the fee where reasonable circumstances prevented you from attending or being available.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to limit any cancellation, refund, or other consumer right that cannot legally be excluded or restricted.
7. Other Important Terms
Where applicable, a Service Agreement, Privacy Policy, Limitations of Liability, or Subscription Agreement may also apply to the services or membership you receive. These documents form part of the applicable agreement and should be reviewed together.
These Terms and any applicable supporting agreements are governed by the laws of British Columbia and applicable Canadian law.
If any provision of these Terms cannot legally be enforced, the remaining provisions will continue to apply to the extent permitted by law.
Your Tech Neighbour may update these Terms from time to time. Updated Terms will generally apply to services requested after they take effect and will not retroactively change services already completed or specific arrangements already agreed to, unless required by law.
